Course Outline

Any organisation that has a computer network or uses the Internet has a potential security risk and will need people with specialised skills to help protect their systems and data. This is where your skills are needed. The course combines theory and practice. It covers cyber security as well as computing hardware and software, such as cloud computing.

You’ll get to use a dedicated private internal network which contains some of the latest security equipment and software and you’ll also get to use a range of biometric hardware and software, including 3D facial recognition, hand scanners and iris scanners used by the police, security services and the information security industry.  You’ll also gain technical skills – in both computer networks and computer systems, develop technical skills in network security, penetration testing and ethical hacking as well as in biometrics and biometric based security systems.

You’ll also cover cryptography and malicious software in detail, the CISCO networking syllabus for Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Routing and Switching as well as to gain the industry-standard EC-Council Ethical Hacker Certification.

Career options may include the following: Cyber Security Consultant, Cyber Security Incident Handler, Cyber Systems Engineer, Ethical Hacker, Information Security Engineer, IT Risk Management Consultant, Network Security Engineer, Security Engineer, Cryptographer, Blockchain Developer Security Software Developer or Cyber Forensic Investigator to name but the most in need examples.

Admission and Graduation Requirement

The entry requirements shall be at least credit level passes in five subjects including English Language, Mathematics and Physics to form the core subjects with credit in any other two relevantscience subjects, at the Senior Secondary School Certificate or its equivalent. In addition, an acceptable pass in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), with relevant subject combination isrequired for Admission into 100 Level.

Candidates with two A level passes (graded A-E) at the GCE/IJMB Advanced Level in relevant subjects (Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics) may be admitted into 200-level. This is in addition to fulfillingthe requirement of a minimum of credit level passes in five relevant subjects at SSCE or WASCE/GCE ‘O’ Level as indicated above.
